Pallet TI-HI Explained

Understand cartons per layer (TI), number of layers (HI), loaded pallet height, and the limits of simple pallet calculations.

TI means cartons per layer

TI describes how many cartons are arranged across one pallet layer. It depends on pallet footprint, carton footprint, orientation, and whether mixed patterns or overhang are allowed.

HI means number of layers

HI is the number of carton layers stacked vertically. It is usually constrained by maximum loaded height, stability, compression, and gross pallet weight.

Cartons per pallet = TI × HI

Why a simple grid can be conservative

A uniform grid only tests one orientation at a time. Some loads fit more efficiently with mixed or interlocking patterns. That improvement should be validated for stability and handling, not assumed from area alone.
